I wonder how installing a patch of unity? Does it apply directly to the version that we have or create a different directory?

You can install to a new directory and have 2 or more separate versions of Unity installed. Or keep 1 version installed by overwriting the existing installation, this is the default.
does it overwrite everything like deleting old one and reinstalling new one or is it more like an update that changes some files ?

I experimented. The patch must be applied to the current version. This will erase the old version and install the new one.
Thanks for it really appreciated :) It is non-logical though; patch means patching some files inside a working directory, they should show it as 'Upgrade' or 'Install' xD
