What would be a better way to achieve this effect?
Hello! Me and my mates are in the middle of re-doing our game's menus, and our artist sketched this concept.
The idea is to animate the borders so they look somewhat like speed lines, while the image on the left remains static, but only visible in the parts covered by the speed lines, so while the lines keep moving, the image keeps breaking apart on the border between the left side and the right side, which would be a gameplay video.
Now, I know one method would be animating the whole left side as a sprite, but we want to have various images, so that'd be a lot of extra work for our artist, who is already pretty busy.
I managed to somewhat accomplish the desired effect by using a splat map shader that superimposes whatever texture I want into the black area, but I cannot seem to find a way to change its rendering mode to cutout, which means the right side remains a solid colour. I can make the right side render the video through the splat map, but the ideal scenario would be for it to be transparent.
And so I come to you with this conundrum. Is there a better way to do this? I've been looking everywhere but I cannot find relevant information, most likely because I don't know if there's a specific thing I should be looking for.
Thanks in advance.
