Can I trigger events to happen in my game / app live
So say I have an app with multiple people in the immediate vicinity with the app on their devices, is it possible to send triggers / events live so that the same thing happens at the same time on each of the users device? This would not need to work over larger distances as all users would be in the same room and if necessary connected to the same wi-fi.
So I would like to have control over when server messages are sent, what would I need to do to send a message from the server? Would I create a gui type of level or scene on the server that controls the clients? What kind of lag would there be between the server sending the message and the animation being played on the clients?
Sorry for my basic understanding, i'm an animator so inexperienced with network code.
Depending on your requirements for "at the same time", you could do this without a server.
If the content that you wanted to trigger was already locally available on the device and it simply triggered once a person moved within a certain distance of a GPS point or a beacon, that would work.
There wouldn't be any interaction between the devices and the distance triggering of all of the separate devices might not register being within range at the exact same time, but that is a way to do it

You are talking about full multiplayer features. Using unity network you can make everyone that is using the same wifi connect automatically to the same "room". I don't believe this is proper way to do this, but it is a quick way for you to test the concept. For this to work with GPS, you will need a lot more things like a custom server to check who is closer,..
