Question by AprilRennyo · Jun 01, 2015 at 01:12 PM · assetbundleruntimevuforiaaugmented-realitystorage

Download AssetBundle + save to local storage+augment with Vuforia ?

Hello Everyone ,

I have been trying to achieve following and I have some doubts about it.

Goals 1. Create an assetBundle with number of prefabs in it. A single prefab contains a 3D model (.fbx) with animations and few sounds which will be played along with the animations when called. 2. Upload this assetbundle to the server and download it in mobile on runtime. As its downloaded its saved in cache. What I would like to achieve is to save this assetbundle on local storage under some folder say "ABC" . Can it be done ? 3. When I am using vuforia SDK for AR, the image target when scanned on runtime augments the prefab from assetbundle .

Can these things be achieved ? How should I proceed ? I have built the assetbundle which has 3D models and sounds . Where I am stuck at is I dont know how to save the downloaded assetbundle to the local storage. and also How do I augment a particular prefab from assetbundle in vuforia scene ?

Can anybody help ?

Asset bundles do not contain FBX files, they contain FBX files converted into the format that Unity uses. If you want to load FBX files, then perhaps avoid using AssetBundles, and download the fbx and write it to the device outside of Unity.

Hi graham, Yes, The conversion from FBX to the file that unity uses is done by when building the assetbundle. If I have to avoid using assetbundle , What other alternatives are there ? I cannot have each model to be downloaded separately (rather bundle it together). How do I manage to download it outside unity and write it to device ?

Hello !

I'm very interesting by this post because this is what I want to do too !

I've created my Asset Bundle (just a simple $$anonymous$$odel3D) which is uploaded on my server. I know and can load and instantiate it from the server but what I really want is storing persistently this Asset Bundle in a folder (Application.persistentDataPath / Application.strea$$anonymous$$gAssetsPath or inside a created folder) so the app can download the model and store it (not in the cache, I've already seen the WWW.LoadFromCacheOrDownload and this isn't what I need) if this is the first use or load directly from the folder if this isn't the first use.

I've looking for many threads, topics, codes and etc.. but still can't doing it for 3 days

Thanks

I also want the same thing. 1 - Upload 3D models to the server. 2 - Download them in an application. 3 - Augment 3D model on a image target. I am still searching for it but can't able to find any answer.
