Unity 5: Standard Assets are missing

Hello.

I've just installed Unity 5 but doesn't come with any assets, like Character Controllers and such. Have I missed one step or something?

Thank you.

Check Program Files/Unity (Install Folder) and see if there is a Standard Assets folder in there.

When I ran Unity Install $$anonymous$$anager, first the editor was downloaded and installed, then the Standard Assets were downloaded in the same process. There was no option to select, it just did it.

I tried reinstalling from Unity Installer and installing the separate Standar Assets installer. No luck. The standar assets packages are no more there. In the launcher I see the custom downloaded package, but no more standard assets. What am I doing wrong ?

Try downloading the Standard Assets installer from their website.

  1. http://unity3d.com/get-unity/download?ref=personal

  2. Click additional downloads

  3. Click Standard Assets

Well spotted. A search didn't find this at all.

This maybe stOOpid but I see it as a pothole... tripping on constant obstacles with blackboxed approaches where no clue is available on the interface, one must magically remember every hook and cranny of the software to keep moving - ins$$anonymous$$d one goes GULP! what now!

...Scenario:

  • Working 5.x version, live rojects all hum$$anonymous$$' along, plenty of assets of all sorts

  • converted/created/added several projects, all good

  • ...THIS TI$$anonymous$$E: !?

  • Save current project, click New Project

  • Unity cycles, in the merry go'round(before and after New Project is up) Unity prompts 3 or 4 times to save this and that?!!? Just used Project SAVE?!?! save ALL.. !?! wateva!!!

  • New Project comes up, E$$anonymous$$PTY assets folder, nothing else... should it not have automatically imported from the Program Files root as it seems to have always done?

  • reimport! does nothing?

  • Tried reimport All again, this time it works but hangs... error cannot create temp folder make sure accesss etc... ??? WHY!? never had problem with that before?!

  • clicked 'Try again"... it cycles, and seems to go to work... no complaints STILL no assets except the scene I just save when it prompted

  • HEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLP! I can try a million things, and then still not know why this pothole... please someone who knows, make this easy!

Additional info:

Does not seem to work for the skyboxes.unitypackage. This is not included in the standard assets anymore, but I don't know why.

I couldn't find it there. I got it from the assets store here: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/32351

If you use the unity installer you will be prompted to choose the component you like to choose to install. One of them is the Standards Assets. Just rerun the installer and choose the install the Standards Assets.

I downloaded the Unity 5 torrent file and within it you get a file: UnityStandardAssetSetup.exe. This will solve your problems and Unity 5 standard assets can be imported.

You don't need a unity torrent...

Uhhh what's your problem? Like many vendors, Unity has released an official torrent for quicker downloads.

Why is it that people like you assume someone is a thief just because they mention torrents?
