Question by Shmoji · May 16, 2019 at 09:39 PM · packagepackagesgitgithub

What is "PREVIEW PACKAGES IN USE"

Today, I pushed all of my project up to github from my 1st laptop that uses Unity 2018. Then, on my 2nd laptop with the newest version of Unity, I pulled the project and started working on it. NOW, everything is working fine, however, it says "PREVIEW PACKAGES IN USE" at the very top of Unity. I am simply wondering if this means something is wrong with my project. If so, how do I fix this?

I finally figured out how to fix this for my project:

Go to: Window at the top -> Package Manager -> Advanced -> Reset Packages to defaults

Unity warns me about breaking of project. I checked the packages that I use and their dependencies and none of them use preview packages, it's just that I've installed maybe some preview packages but none of em are in use. So I think it should be fine even if I publish my games since technically, I am not using any preview package according to the package manager.

I would check out your package manager and see if you have any preview packages. See if you need those preview packages or not. I believe preview is intended not to be used for production, but if its working then I don't see the harm. You can remove the preview packages from the package manager.

I also have the Preview Packages in use, but the package is throwing up a string of compiler errors. When I try to delete the package I cannot and going to the Window menu and Package Manager only opens a blank panel. How can I delete Packages?

This has started appearing with 2020.1.0b9, annoying but it is a beta itself so I don't really care. I'm using Entities and the new Input System (which work fine). It will go away with 'dismiss for now' but it assumes I'm a goldfish the next time I open Unity and it comes back. Never seen the point of temporarily dismissing messages...

I get the "Preview Packages in Use" alert in the upper-right, but when I click on it, it says no preview packages are found in my package manager. Very weird.

I had the same thing. Found that you need to turn on dependencies for packages, then discovered the "$$anonymous$$ultiplayer HLAPI" is using a preview package.
