Procedural 3D Arrow/Connection/link between Objects...
Hi there everybody,
i need your help (again) - I am currently working on a project, in which i need to show 3D-Arrows to visualize connections between some objects in my szene. So imagine just a very simple szene, two boxes, and i want to create a 3D-Arrow to show that Box a is communicating with Box b. The Boxes do not move in Gametime, BUT i really don't want to model hundreds of specific Arrows and change the length if i reposition any of the objects. Any Ideas, how to accomplish this? Are there any Plugins out there (assetstore?) which can do the job, perhaps the Megafiers extension?
Just found some military-example to illustrate what i want/need: http://defstrat.com/ArticleImages/EBO1.jpg
Thanks in advance!
The first thing that comes to $$anonymous$$d to me is the LineRenderer. It simply draws a line between 2 points and can have a material so you can differentiate multiple lines. They can have tons (infinite?) of vertices so you can have the lines "bend" if you wish.
The simplest method would be to draw two points between box A and box B, and have the start & end width of the line be different if you need to be able to tell direction. Although, this is a line rather than an arrow with the two points at the end.
Another idea would be to model a simple arrow mesh and have it rigged with bones, one to control the "head" (for rotation) and a few so you can stretch and bend the body, though there's probably a better approach then the two I've listed.
Yea, already thougth of this, but i really need those arrows on each side. Furthermore i need some thickness, not just a plain texture facing the camera. So i think lineRenderer is no real option for me. And i'm not ffeling skilled enough to write my own, procedural 3D-Arrow linerenderer...
Hmm, I'm not sure what would be the best option other than creating an arrow mesh at run-time.. Hopefully someone else can help you here!
