UI Date Picker (roller)

I am trying to come up with a basic strategy to make a date picker, such as the one you see in an iphone: alt text

Lets ignore the visual effect of curves. The first thing that comes to mind, is to use a scroll view with discrete steps for sliding and just have a few of those lined up next to one another. Does that seem like the right way to start? Of course, there are no default properties for setting the desirable sliding mechanics, I am hoping it can be scripted. Any advice on where to start, is appreciated.
