Does unity give your computer a virus?
I just got a new computer today and my brother wanted to play some games on game shed and it asked me to download unity web player. I don't want to ruin my computer... (its an hp windows 8 laptop) Is unity really safe to download?

Webplayer games made with Unity are Sandboxed, so they should not pose a threat to your system. Unitys Webplayer is designed to protect end users computers. Without this protection, the web would not be a nice place to visit since it would mean that a lot of (sinful) developers would have easy access to unsuspecting users confidential data.
Please ensure you download Unity from their webplayer download page, as it's a trustworthy source. Unity webplayer content will also ask you to download the player if you haven't got it for convenience, but it may feel more comforting for you to know you installed the correct plugin, from the correct site, since you express these concerns.
I am not aware of any viruses associated with Unity Content.
Please also understand that we can't be held responsible if for any reason your computer would be compromised. I've stated an honest view of how Unity works and what security feature there is to prevent content from accessing your files. You are always at risk when downloading any kinds of executables from any source online, since every binary could in theory be harmful and because messages can be intercepted and spoofed. Please consider investing in an antivirus program for added safety if you feel unsure.
