How to lower the graphics in unity so its like a ps1 game?
Hello Unity Community. Im pretty new to unity (About 4 months) Ive been able to make quite a bit of stuff so far. But I want the graphics to be like an old ps1 game. Yeah I know its kinda an odd question.
I would like to get my graphics like this If possible. So how do I make my graphics like that. All fuzzy and retro pixely? Is it possible? Also. I am looking for a few people that would like to help I need a decent 3D moddler and a someone who is ok at scripting Just thought that I should ask. Any help would be greatly appreciated :D Thank you -Stuart

There are quite a few settings in the editor you can change for both rendering, the textures you import, lighting, etc. You could even write your own shader to achieve a "grainy/pixelated" view like you describe.
You can also force unity player to use the lowest graphics settings in the build settings, and combine that with disabling the settings-prompt that users get when they run the game, although this won't exactly make your textures "grainy" like in that screenshot.
But, probably the easiest way to achieve this look is to simply create your art assets with this pixelated style. Then you can disable things like anti-aliasing to keep the rough edges, and any other fancy lighting or rendering settings that might be on by default. (And post-process effects if you use Unity Pro).
How do I make my own art assests? And how do u think this guy did it? http://screenshotsaturday.com/user/aladameh.html
Art assets are drawn. By hand. In a 2D image manipulation or 3D modelling and/or animation program of your choice. Notable free ones are Gimp for 2D images, and Blender for 3D.
I noticed in another question of yours you were looking for artists to collaborate with you on your project. If you don't want to create the art yourself, then you can look for people who would do it for you.
I would very much like someone to do it for me. But I looked at the spot where you ask In the forums and found that not too many people are replying to them :( any other good spots to ask?
Just because people are not replying to certain forum posts doesn't mean the forum is not active. Perhaps people just don't want to join in that project, or communicate through P$$anonymous$$ or email ins$$anonymous$$d of replying to the thread.
But there are tons of other places to look. Pretty much any website focused on indie games has a forum for collaborations, like tigsource for example
http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?board=8.0
Google, or your preferred search engine, is your best friend for this.
I'm really not trying to be a dick but I have to say: if you're not an artist, and you're not a programmer, then what are you bringing to the table that would make these people want to work with you ins$$anonymous$$d of just with each other? If you think being the 'idea guy' is enough, it's not, because game ideas are a dime a dozen. I have at least 5 good game ideas that will probably never get made for simple lack of man-hours, and I have all the skills to complete them singlehandedly.

To achieve the pixely looking image you could use: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/content/3842 It's a selection of post effects and one of them is exactly that pixellation you are looking for.
$1,530 actually.. assu$$anonymous$$g you haven't purchased Unity PRO yet.
:O Way to far out of my price range, lol. Thanks for taking the time to reply. and that prob saved me a lot of disappointment If I did end up buying it. and finding out that it didn't work properly
The PS1 did pretty amazing 3d for the pitiful graphics processor it had, and looks that way because of stretching what they had to work with as far as it would go. It would be unfortunate to take an engine that -could- do so much more, on much faster hardware, and have to spend extra processing power on a post effect to make it look worse. If you make something that looks crappy and lo-fi in 2013, you should try to do it just as efficiently as they did and put what you're saving into something impressive that the PS1 couldn't have done- like a gigantic world you can see for miles in and a butter smooth framerate.
ok but I don't want it to have the graphics that it uses now. because I think it looks worse. I want it to look retro. I want it to be a cool old school free roam retro game
