looking for highly recommended structured training.
Can anyone recommend a good place to get great training.
I am looking for structured training rather than teach myself. I am not new to the art side of things and I can even build basic realtime FX in UE4. I know little to nothing when it comes to scripting or C#
I know this Unity site also offers training but I am looking for other options too. But, if you think this site offers good structured training please say so.
I have discovered these two. What do you think?
Udemy -- Learn to Code by Making Games - The Complete Unity Developer $15 https://www.udemy.com/unitycourse/
Udacity -- VR Developer Nanodegree 6months @ $99mth https://www.udacity.com/course/vr-developer-nanodegree--nd017
Thanks in Advance
Do you want to learn C#? Or do you want to learn Unity?
Good question. I thought to learn unity one had to also know a little C#.
Does Unity have Visual Scripting language like UE has (BluePrints) ? I ask because I come from the Artist side of things and visual scripting is much less intimidating.
There's a popular asset called Playmaker that provides a node-based graphical editor which I believe is similar to Blueprints.
I think most people would agree that you can't make any kind of "serious" game without coding. But then again, you could be an absolute expert in C# but not know anything about game design. And then, if you do make a great game, it's not much use unless you've got the business skills to market it and monetise it. You'll need all these skills (and many more) if you want to be a successful game developer.
Personally, I would always recommend the tutorials in the "Learn" section of this site above any other: they're free, up-to-date, and come from an authoritative source. I've found flaws in every single third-party training course I've seen - although that Udemy one is popular it seems to $$anonymous$$ch some pretty bad habits (it is, after all, designed by an entrepreneur rather than a programmer)

Thank you. I think I find learning easier if it's structured. With a teacher I can call on and with assignments etc. I am also building a realtime FX portfolio in UE4 so I have limited time. I know your probably thinking why don't I build my FX portfolio in Unity, well I started doing that about 18mths ago and was advised by FX artists to build it in UE4.

There's lots of youth after school programs that hire well versed University and College students to teach programming to kids.
I'm not saying you should join a kids class; but like.. if you reach out for an instructor like that to tutor you, it would be exactly what you're looking for. They'd already have structured lesson plans to teach you, etc.
Often these instructors are looking to do extra tutoring on the side anyway.
