Question by Wesley21spelde · Jan 22, 2016 at 12:27 PM · playeraddforcenot working

cant add force to my player

hey guys i would like to make some sort if Jump Plate like ontriggerenter addforce up lets say 10units

but i cant add force to my player its a standard fps player from unity 5.3 found in the characters map the player`s rigidbody is standard set to use graphity and is kenetic

why kenetic????

i tried and turned it of but the fps player script gets weird cant explaine but shaky i triend removing it same effect i dont know how to fix tis im not sutch a good programmer

this is what i have

 using UnityEngine;
 using System.Collections;

 public class ForcePlateAddForce1 : MonoBehaviour {

     public float thrust = 100f;

     void Start()
     {
         GetComponent<Rigidbody>();
     }

     void OnTriggerEnter(Collider col)
     {
         var rb = col.gameObject.GetComponent<Rigidbody>();
             rb.AddForce(transform.up * thrust);
     }
 }

Here is the FPS Controller script

 using UnityEngine;
 using UnityStandardAssets.CrossPlatformInput;
 using UnityStandardAssets.Utility;
 using Random = UnityEngine.Random;

It doesn't work because, like you said, the standard Unity character controller you're using has its Rigidbody set to kinematic. The reason for this is because the character controller you're using has a CharacterController component attached to it, and its Move method will check for collisions on its own outside of the physics calculations. So you're basically meant to use the CharacterController.Move method. If you want to use AddForce on the Rigidbody you should be using the other standard Unity character controller called RigidbodyFPSController, not the FPSController that you're currently using.
