Question by mcoirad · Sep 10, 2015 at 02:29 PM · packagedecompress

Failure to decompress package

So recently I had to wipe my laptop, and I have reinstalled the newest version of Unity (5.2.0) on my Windows 7 machine.

Unfortunately I now have the problem that I am unable to load any packages into the environment. Even basic packages like 2D, Cameras, and Effects give back the error "Failed to import package with error: Couldn't decompress package" I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling unity but to no avail. I've checked the file paths of the packages and they also seem to be correct

Does there need to be an installation of 7zip in the project folder or something?

no you shouldn't be installing anything else, i had this problem long time ago and it just solved itself, however it might be some trouble between your system and unity, i would try restarting, checking disk space etc. and actually i am not installing 5.2 until first patch, because it's full of bugs, so this might be one of them

In the end what worked was loading a project that used the package, and then creating a new project. Now it works completely fine. Weird.
