Can 3D objects be added to 2D game?
This is a very beginner level question, I am starting off with unity and the first thing I have to select is to choose a 3D/2D environment. Well, In my project, I need to add a custom ball-like structure that rotates (90 degrees in all directions: X,Y,Z axis) on respective keyboard inputs. For this purpose, the ball-object in itself needs to be 3D, but the rest of the gameplay is in 2D.
Do I need to select 3D environment just for facilitating the rotation of the ball?

Doesn't matter at all, that is just preset of project, like camera, light options and layout with which you will start. Everything can be changed in project on any stage. And yes you can mix 2D and 3D as much as you like.
