Question by Kuropoi-Leo · Jan 22, 2018 at 03:34 PM · script.crashrecovery

NOOOOO my script's content entirely gone after computer crash

Sorry for my BAD English, because English is not my mother language.

I edited the script, then quick saved, and well then my computer crashed, so I force the computer to reboot. After that, thousands of rows (well, about 1400~1500 rows) of codes WERE GONE, dammit. I tried refreshing and reimporting the script, but it did no work, the contents are still missing. Fortunately (?), the size of script is 97KB, that means (well maybe) there's still hope to recover the file, but how? Please help!! alt text alt text

Have you tried to open it with a simle text editor? (not monoedevelop)

By the way:

  1. Having a script with 1400~1500 lines, surely means your class does more than one thing, which violates the Single responsibility principle)

  2. You should have a back-up / versionning system, even for small projects

Also, hey it says 97kb. Does it still say that? If so, tried a different editor?

No, both ways did no work at all, simple text editor shows lots of Space, ILSpy shows "This file does not contain a managed assembly." And well, this computer crash is out of my expectation, so I have no back-up :( .

You are opening the wrong file.

Go in to your Build directory. Look for the data folder. Inside that go to the $$anonymous$$anaged folder. There you have Assemblies-CSharp.dll and Assemblies-Unityscript.dll. If you build for 64 bit there will be 2 data folders. Open those dlls with ILSpy and your code should be contained within the {} subcategory. In my project I tested with, I wrote Unityscript and Built for 64-bit so most of my code was contained within 64_data folder in Assemblies-Unityscript.dll.

You can retrieve the code from an earlier build.
