Licence cost for software needed to use Unity
Hi Guys, so I was wondering. As far as I understand, Unity uses the .net Framework from Microsoft and comes with VS2017 Community as recommended Code IDE. Let's say I would publish a game with a team of two. One is a programmer the other is an artist. What feeds would I have to pay, besides the fee for Unity itself? My question aims at the programming tools and IDEs. And are there alternatives which are free?
Thanks!
Unity uses the .net Framework from $$anonymous$$icrosoft
No, Unity uses $$anonymous$$ono an open source implementation of $$anonymous$$icrosoft's .NET Framework based on the EC$$anonymous$$A standards for C# and the Common Language Runtime.
Here is the information about $$anonymous$$ono's licence : https://www.mono-project.com/docs/faq/licensing/
And here is the licence of Visual Studio Community 2017
Thanks for your fast reply Hellium. So, unlike Unreal which seems to depend on VS2017 build tools which bind to the same license as VS2017 itself, unity does not bundle with anything that might need to be licensed. That's great news.
Now I've read the VS2017 License terms but I'm still not sure if I would be allowed to use it for free in any commercial product. Based on the assumption there would be a company with two people. One of them is using Visual Studio. Would I be allowed to used VS2017 Community commercially without any costs?
I believe this question should be asked on the Visual Studio forum. You will have better chance to get a reliable answer.
I'll do that. Thanks for your help. I'll post my findings here. $$anonymous$$aybe someone might find it useful.
