Fighting game: Select character and switch controls

So i'm trying to make a fighting game, starting with a character select.

I want to make player one control his selected character with "wasd", and make player two control his selected character with the arrow keys.

I think i have to make a player one and two script controls, but, how can i link them to the character selected ????
