Mesh combine on block world

Hey

I just trying to make a procedural generated world with blocks which are represented by Quads. There are two different Quads, one for a blocks top side and one for a blocks side. So they have different material attached. Now I want to combine the meshes to improve performance. I tried different solutions I found on the web. For example this one. The problem is, that after combining the Quads there is no material attached and I don't know how to create a mesh collider.

Here a little screenshot of the world: alt text

You seem to be making something extremely similar to $$anonymous$$inecraft. Have you tried following one of the many $$anonymous$$inecraft tutorials: http://in2gpu.com/2014/07/27/build-$$anonymous$$ecraft-unity-part-1/

Or searched on Unity Answers and the Forum? There are many similar questions and solutions already asked: http://unity3d.com/search?refinement=answers&gq=$$anonymous$$ecraft%20optimization
