Learning with low system specs?

Heya,

I'm currently working with a below average computer and was wondering if there's any tutorials (lessons) I can play around with, until I upgrade my PC?

If so, could you list them as well as some "Protips" for to lowering the display/render settings in Unity3D so as not to worry about crashing too often?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Ps. Not sure it matters, but my main goal is to make a Final Fantasy Tactics type of game.

I just skimmed that, but nothing listed jumps out at me as an immediate problem. You may need to be careful about using too many complex shaders or dumping too much geometry into a scene, but that's always going to be the case.

Are you encountering a performance issue, or just worried that you might?

@Rutter,

$$anonymous$$ostly just paranoid Unity simply wont work correctly on this PC and I'll encounter problems without actual solutions.

IE: I can't even run "Ittle Dew" at normal game speed. **It's VERY sluggish and non-responsive.

I don't understand whats stopping you from just installing Unity and trying for yourself? I have a really crappy computer and Unity runs just fine as long as I keep the quality setting as low as possible.

In the 5 hours since you posted this you could have answered all your questions for yourself ;)

@Benproductions,

You're suggesting "a weeks worth of work, to save an hour of proper planning".

IE: Learn the hard way, by wasting time.

For those of us unfamiliar with new software, we don't know what's working "correctly" and what's not... nor where to start in the first place.

IE: It's far easier and more intelligent, to simply ask others that have more experience.. rather than waste time.

**In these past 5 hours, I've designed 3 characters for my prototype in photoshop and started sculpting the first in Zbrush.

The Unity editor could run on an android when it comes to system compatibility. Everything works, it just won't work very well.
