How to change the color of a GuiLayout.button thats part of the editor

The team I am on wants a tool in the editor which is a simple button to click.

I have a GUILayout.Button already, clickable and working

I just want to be able to change the color when clicked.

More specifically, change the color based on a bool, but still.

I tried "style.normal.textcolor = some color" and when debugging the color value changed but when you look at the editor, its still Black text in the button
