maya baked lightmap appears ripple effect
I baked lightmap in maya batch bake (light). The room is in real size. About 500 inches (13 meters) in length. The resolution in baking is 2048 * 2048 and the seam parameter is 3. When I apply it to Lightmapped diffuse shader as lightmap in Unity, it looks having ripple effect (see in the picture, on the floor and walls). And there are still seams shown. It looks like a painting, but not a photograph. I didn't see such patern in lightmap EXR file. Could anyone help me with this? Any idea is appreciated!

it is hard to tell from the small pictures. some things that might cause the issues: - too small lightmap resolution - low samples in the bake settings
in general baking with mentalray can be a bit tricky, since it uses the camera to bounce rays in your scene. so some backfacing areas tend to recieve less samples than others. usually baking from multiple angles and combining the maps helps.
The room is in real size. The length is about 500 inches (13 meters). I used 2048 * 2048 in mental ray batch bake. Is this resolution too low for the size of the room? I attach another picture. Thanks very much!

The room is in real size. The length is about 500 inches (13 meters). I used 2048 * 2048 in mental ray batch bake. Is this resolution too low for the size of the room? Also the parameter for seams in batch bake was 3 and there we can still see the seams on the boundaries. What can I do with it? I attach another picture. Thanks very much!
2k should be more than enough, the map does look like it was too low in resolution also the seams could come from this. are your uvs sized and positioned in 0 to 1 space evenly? if you want i can have a look at your scene.
Thanks so much Lukasvogl! Here is the scene and texture files: . I rebaked the 3072*3072 "only light" texture and now the seams are gone. But the ripples are still there. I'm wondering is the method that I imported or applied the lightmap into Unity was not right. Could you please take a look. Thank!
ok. here is my guess. i don´t have unity installed at work so i can´t test it. but it seems that your lightmap is only 8bit. try rebaking as 32bit open exr. that should fix your problems. best regards
Thanks! I tried to bake 32bit exr and plug it in the lightmapping--> lightmaps textures. It looks good now! Just don't know why there still shows the bee hive pattern on the right boxes. It can be fixed in photoshop. But just confused.
Probaply low samples in the light or bake settings. but i'm glad i could help. best regards
