Is node js and socket.io a viable option for a real time 2D game?
I'm looking to create a real time game for mobile, similar to Terraria, but without any sandbox aspects. In short, it's basically a multiplayer platformer. Will a node js and socket.io server solution be enough to handle it?
I made a very crude server for testing and all seems to be going well for the most part. The movement is jittery but that's because I haven't implemented any lag compensation. I'm just wondering how well a server like this will scale with more players per server, up to 200, along with multiple enemies and a lot of projectiles.
If the server solution I'm currently using won't work well, what would be a better option?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
