World space canvas buttons are not working?

I have a world space canvas in my scene with numerous buttons and it all worked fine until I updated to the new version of unity, now i cant click on anything unless the mouse cursor is unlocked which is quite annoying because I need these worldspace buttons to workw ithout having to enable the cursor.

No canvas is blocking it and all the buttons have On Click() and the like.

I have 1 event system in the scene also

What are other possible causes?

doesn't it make sense that a locked cursor is locked? I'd say that's a bug fixed. how should the UI behave without a cursor?

Well it was working before so I assumed it was possible to click it like that
