Playmode won't work properly on mac

So I'm extremely new to Unity and I'm using unity 5 on my macbook air.

For some reason, every time I try to start playmode, everything but the scene and game view gets blacked out. I don't get to input anything, so no mousemovement, no wasd etc.

The only way to get out of this situation is by using ctr+p (or on my mac cmnd+p). Everything else in Unity works perfectly fine, only actually testing what you've made seems to be really hard.

And after having searched for some time on Unity answers and Forums I couldn't find someone with this problem.
