Starship Doors / Hatches

How can I make the doors aboard the ship open when the character gets within 5 or 6 feet of them, can I make a animation, then tell it to repeat this under a given circumstance? If so how do I script the animation in?

I make games to entertain myself. After following this tag, I have clearly come to a conclusion that I can get the same level of enjoyment by reading comments.

Sarcasm gene? Triggered? Beautiful stuff.

One good way to find answers to a question, is to look at other, similar Questions. For instance, look at the right sidebar (yes, now :) - and you'll see the word Related and a bunch of other Questions. Many of them ask the exact same thing you're asking (possibly not involving a starship).

If you do read, say, the Questions with the word door in them, you'll notice that something called a Collider is usually involved with an OnTriggerEnter event, which fires an Animation when triggered. You might be able to use some of their scripts directly, or you might have to change them slightly, but it should give you an idea of how to create a script.

Hey, don't be an asshole, I looked at those, and they weren't what I was looking for.

@jack Hey, careful, man. He was just pointing something out. And the fact is, those answers are what you're looking for.

@jack - yes, there was a bit of sarcasm there, and yes, it was a useful Answer. Here's the thing - it looked like you asked an incredibly basic question that has been answered again and again. If you did actually look at other Questions, then I'm sorry for my tone. But - if you did put some work into it, then you should say so. Post some other links, or scripts, saying these didn't do what you wanted. Ask why they didn't work, or how to make them work in your specific project. Because as it is, your Question just looks lazy.

(Part 2) And I know you're not lazy, or a total noob - you've asked good Questions before, and clearly have a project you're putting a lot of work into. But this Question, as is, just doesn't show that. (And I admit part of it's my fault - I do have a sarcasm gene... and this question just triggered it. :)

If anything with a mildly-negative connotation can't penetrate you, don't ask mildly-stupid questions. There's far more usefulness in this answer than you're willing to see.

yes, i came here looking at this question, for example, to find answers as the first responder here suggests. only instead of finding concise, good info, I find a flame war. Hope the other door-tagged answers are more helpful...
