Model / rig / whatever doesn't reset after previewing animation in the editor (not import settings)

So it's really cool that you can preview your animation in the scene view by opening the Animation window and selecting an object with animations then choosing what animation to preview, scroll along the timeline etc. What a good feature, perfect for my climbing set up, I can preview the animation, and then set points where the arms max reach are so I have a reference for lining everything up! Oh but there's of course a problem, how do you return to the bind pose / what the pose was before previewing / whatever. It doesnt rest basically. I swear it used to, or it does on non rigged objects. But on my character, nope, not having any of it, it just stays at whatever frame you leave it on. I uncheck the record animation button, unselect the object, reload the scene. But nothing, still at the same position.

Bug? "Feature"? Me being an idiot?
