Is there a way to detect if an object is continuously beside another object?

I have an issue that stems from thrusting a box object around with rebounding in space, but also moving it around manually with the mouse... if I happen to move the character right next to the wall object, it loses it's detection (initial, not continuous) and I can't repel the object off the wall anymore. The only way I can think to fix this is detect if the box object is still on wall so I can reverse it's movement. But I have yet to find how to do that. Is it possible?
