Question by Maikhool · Jan 20, 2016 at 07:52 AM · databasedatadata storagedatastructure

If there arent Data tables then how??

I'm developing a little manufactoring plant game and at the moment i'm trying to organise a system where the player can hire suppliers of materials and if possible I would like to link all of the data to the one place in a structure similar to this.

Supplier name - Resource Offered - Amount of resources per shipment - price per shipment

so it would look something like this.

Angry Bob's - Chicken - 50 - $30 Super Man Steel - Steel - 20 - $50

I found that Data tables would do What I want but it doesn't seem like it's implementable unless I missed it. Could anyone help me with this?

An array of struct or classes would be a table representation.

Have a class or struct containing your fields and create an array from it. Each entry being a row in the table.

However if you are wanting a fully fledged storage and retrieval system woth queries then that is different. It would require you to roll your own or use an exisiting light weight embedded database solution.

I use C# and I am not a master at it so take my suggestion with a grain of salt.

If you know that the number of columns that you have are static and not dynamic, meaning that they will always be:

name - resource - amount - price

Then you can use arrays as Dave has suggested. Arrays will let you store the data in rows which can then be added to another array as a sort of database. If you assign each supplier with an id to identify it you can then search that list of arrays for the first element that matches to find the identifier. Then you pull that array that had the matching identifier and loop through it to assign the variables as needed.

Example:

[["Bob's Lumber", "Wood", 50, 20], ["Timmy's $$anonymous$$ine", "$$anonymous$$etal", 100, 200]] That would be the array in C# for 2 supplier's and their data.

Element 0 = name Element 1 = resource Element 2 = amount Element 3 = price
