Accessing state in real time from 2nd script.

I have enum States on my GameManager that I would like to use with "if" statements on a 2nd script. The states are called properly to the 2nd script and show the original selections in the Inspector window.

However when the states are changed during the game by the GameManager, they do not update on the 2nd object. It just stays at the initial selection. The IF statement even works properly, but is stuck on the initial manual selection from the inspector window.

Is there a check I need to run in the Start or Update on the 2nd script to continuously sync with the original GameManager script?
