Question by Nickosh · Aug 15, 2019 at 12:20 PM · fpsstandalonedropdownwindows-7low fps

Dropped down fps (to 1 or 2 fps) when building standalone ver. of the same project for the same machine with newer unity version.

Initial Parameters:
1. A project with a single scene contains a camera, a canvas and an image component with b&w sprite the size of 1280x768. The sprite has the white text "L:games" on the black background. (This is my own splash screen).

2. The gameobject with the Image compoment has the script on it, which on awake (with the start of the game) changes alfa of the above mentioned image from 0 to 1, then holds it for a sec and then changes it back from 1 to 0. This represents appearing and disappearing of the splash screen.

3. The project initially created with Unity ver. 2017 2.5.f1.

4. The machine that the final standalone build is tested on:
Windows 7 Ultimate;
Intel core 2 CPU 6420 @2.13GHz (2 CPUs);
RAM 2048 Mb;
DirectX 11;
Radeon X1615, 1022Mb RAM

5. Unity versions used:
2017 2.5.f1
2018 4.5.f1

Problem Description:

When building a standalone version of the project with Unity ver. 2017 2.5.f1 everything works fine as expected.
There are no slowdowns in the final build at all on any PC.

When transfering the project to a newer version (Unity ver. 2018 4.5.f1) with absolutely the same parameters, everything works fine in Editor.
But being built with this new Unity version - when launching on abovementioned testing machine, the standalone build gives a huge dropdown in fps, like till 1 or 2 fps.

I could attach a short video file showing the normal speed of the build made by Unity2017, and the slowdown of the same build made by Unity2018, BUT this forum do not let me attach videos

Expectations: the same project with the same parameters being built with newer version of unity must run with the same speed (fps) on the same machine.

P.S. All Unity Editors are istalled on my working PC which is different from the abovementioned test machine.

But my working PC does not differ much:
Windows 7 Home Edition;
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU Т6600 @2.2GHz (2 CPU);
RAM 3072 Mb;
DirectX 11;
nVidia GeForce G103M, 1773Mb;

Though on this exact PC both in Unity Editor ver. 2017 and 2018 the project runs fine as well as the standalone builds built with both of these versions.

Please help to figure out what could be the problem of such a slowdown in fps of the windows standalone build built with the newer Unity version?
My guess Unity of newer versions may work with some PCs hardware differently... But this means I have to go to another platform to build casual games for sale?
