Question by eelstork · Jul 06, 2014 at 11:32 AM · lightmappingstaticpoint lightauto

Do I need to set light mapping to realtime only to avoid baking dynamic point lights?

I'm doing some testing with light mapping. I had a dynamic point light that got baked and checked the setting. The light was not set as "light map static" but got baked anyway.

Behaviour is correct if I set the light to RealtimeOnly in LIghtmapping tab but... in "auto mode" I expected that inspector setting ("static" checkboxes) should take precedence?

Please go through this link to understand lightmapping in depth and also about the precedence of the parameters/properties

I guess you might be referring to this?

Realtime Only lights are never baked. The Near lightmap set is used within the distance from the camera smaller than the Shadow Distance quality setting. Within this distance Auto lights are rendered as realtime lights with specular, bump and realtime shadows (this makes their shadows blend correctly with shadows from Realtime Only lights) and their indirect light is taken from the lightmap. Outside Shadow Distance Auto lights no longer render in realtime and full illu$$anonymous$$ation is taken from the Far lightmap (Realtime Only lights are still there, but without the shadows).

As I have already read linked documentation but this paragraph seems more relevant. Will read this again tomorrow.

I don't know what "update the chain here" really means. Sorry.
