Question by VataRaven · Oct 09, 2013 at 03:43 AM · texturematerialsubstancedesigner

how to make substance material (subtance designer)

Yeah, as the question asks

I"m playing around with the program, but I wanted to know if there is a good tutorial how to make them

I mean, the publishing company (maker of the SD program) put out a lot of their own substances, and wanted to know the process

Also, can substances be made from already made textures (photos, ect)

Edit: Sorry, used wrong term I think...I think they're called procedural materials

You can call them substances...at this point I think most people will know what you mean. Anyway, Allegorithmic has a bunch of tutorials on their site to get you started: Substance Designer: First Steps. I would also recommend their YouTube page: Allegorithmic on YouTube. Lots of information to be had there.

Are they mainly done from scratch? or can they be made from photo textures?

That's what I really wanted to know, so I know what resources to focus on.

There is PhotoShop integration into the SD workflow. I'm not familiar with developing substances so I couldn't personally tell you what you can/should focus on.
