Question by inejwstine · Oct 22, 2018 at 09:23 PM · assetsasset storelicenseassetstorelicensing

Do both I and my client need a license to Unity Store Assets?

I want to make sure I understand the Unity Asset Store EULA (found here: https://unity3d.com/legal/as_terms). Let's say I've purchased an asset from the store to use in my own game projects. Then I get a client who wants to hire me to work on a game for them, and I want to use the aforementioned asset in this game made for hire. According to section 2.4, is it correct that (1) either I or my client would need to purchase the asset again in order to use it for their game? Or (2) is my own purchase of the asset sufficient, and they would only have to purchase it themselves if they wanted to later hire somebody else to work on it that didn't already own the asset?

Also, does the answer change depending on whether the asset is an unrestricted, restricted, or editor extension asset (see sections 2.2.1, 2.2.2, and 2.3.2, respectively)?

Thanks!

$$anonymous$$ost asset are 1 license per seat. $$anonymous$$eaning 1 person access to it. For the huge project, It mean only coder who got the access to the asset to use it not the artist.

So yeah, your client need to buy it if they want to own project. Otherwise the project is belong to you. You just build/publish game for them.

If they just want to test/see project, I am pretty sure to the law it is neglectable.

Edit: you can always ask client to make an account and buy all necessary asset and give the account to you. So they will own the project + asset, you just their account to make game. As long as, 1 person is using that account.

It is just like a $$anonymous$$m account in Unity.

Just found this in the Unity Knowledge Base that I had missed before: https://support.unity3d.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013314551-Can-I-use-Asset-licenses-that-I-purchase-for-my-freelance-development-work-

In short, the client would need to own a license for each asset included in the game being made for them.
