Unity Video ads closing when player leaves app.

Hi guys,

We have Unity video ads integrated nicely on our mobile game. However, every time a video ad is played in between levels, the player can skip it by leaving the app (home button for iOS, back button for Android) and the opening it again immediately.

Is this behaviour intended by Unity? I remember this is not the case a few months ago when we first released our game - ads were persistent back then.

Currently on Unity 5.3.5f1, and using Unity Ads from Services tab.

Looking forward to your insights.

This would be intended behaviour as exiting an app SHOULD stop ads playing. You can't force a user to watch an ad no matter what! Each ad should already have a close button so that the user can simply close it if they choose to.

I would be very very suprised if Apple and Google didn't reject an app that forced ads on their customers even if the app had been closed!

If Unity was continuing to display an ad even after the user pressed home or back to exit your app then this would have been a very serious bug in Unity's ad implementation!

I believe the behaviour which the OP expected was that the ad should stop playing when the game is closed, but then it should resume when the user switches back to the game.

To be honest it sounds remarkably like the OP wants to stop the user skipping the ads.

I'm not even sure why users would need to resort to closing and opening the OP's app to get past the ads in the first place unless they couldn't close them any other way.

Thank you guys for your reply.

To clarify the scenario: Yes, user is definitely able to close ads manually. In fact we have 2 kinds of video ads-

Normal video ads - skip button appears on top left corner after 3-5 seconds.

Rewarded video ads - user will need to watch the entire video to earn a reward BUT these ads only appear when the user presses "I want to earn a reward by watching a video" button.

As @tanoshimi has mentioned, yes we only want our ad to persist when player goes back to the app. And to be more specific, we have tied some of our game functionality such as showing "New High Score!", "Player One Wins!" banners after the user has closed the ad manually. $$anonymous$$eaning, if the ad was closed by leaving the app, and then co$$anonymous$$g back, those banners won't show.

Further, if player presses "I want to earn a reward by watching an ad" button, but then closes the app by mistake, and then co$$anonymous$$g back to find out his reward is nowhere to be found, could be frustrating.

I$$anonymous$$O, you shouldn't be resu$$anonymous$$g the ad, even if user closed it by mistake. What you should do is, give him the option to watch video for rewards on resu$$anonymous$$g the app.
