Texture2D Apply fail

I have some Texture2Ds which I'm calling Apply(true, true) on which, according to the documentation, the texture will be marked as no longer readable and memory will be freed after uploading to GPU. By default makeNoLongerReadable is set to false.

However what happens if there is no more memory on the GPU? Will this operation fail and what is the fallback memory?

I need to know that our game can run on netbooks that have potentially 128MB or less gfx cards.
