SVG sprites aren't affected by lighting

I've been completely unable to get SVG sprites to be affected by lighting (change color, brightness). I'm using Vector sprites with gradients on them, and no matter what material I use, they are either completely unaffected by lighting, or they just don't display at all.

Does anyone know what material I can use to fix this? or any solution at all?
