Cinema 4d C4d R17 & Unity 5.5 - auto import broken?

I've been Using C4D for years with Unity, and while it has it's quirks it's always worked. Right now on Unity 5.5.0f3 & C4D R17 (Build RB136011) I'm getting the following error and NONE of our meshes are importing:

Cinema 4D couldn't convert the .C4D file to an fbx file. Try exporting the .C4D file to an fbx file manually. You need at least Cinema 4D R11 to import .C4D files directly.

Any Tips? Much appreciated! The prospect of manually converting everything to fbx's would be brutal.

UPDATE: Here is the error from the editor log

Updating Assets/_Meshes/_Archive/Terrain/Ter_Spires.c4d - GUID: 0ff84b4684442ae459fe8e8ae32a1c58... SYNC PIPE NOT FOUND EXTRACT: '' SYNC PIPE PATH: 'C:\Users\RFLANA~1\AppData\Local\Temp\rflanagan-UnityC4DFBXout' LOOP TERMINATION: pluginNotInstalled: 0, conversionFailed: 0, processExited: 1 Cinema 4D couldn't convert the .C4D file to an fbx file. Try exporting the .C4D file to an fbx file manually. You need at least Cinema 4D R11 to import .C4D files directly.

UPDATE 2:

We rolled back to Cinema 4D R15 (which we knew to be working in another location) and it did not work, same error/problem...

Any tips would be rad :)

Richard

Hi! I am having the same exact issue. I have posted a few times about this with zero replies.

When I tried this Unity downloaded an addon that allowed the import of the c4d files but it's painfully easy to just go into Cinema 4D and go to the file tab and export it as an .fbx

hi, the whole point of the c4d import was to not have to export to fbx. this breaks all the native abilities of c4d, as everything in your raw file becomes a collapsed mesh.

you used to be able to keep working in your cinema 4d file, with all the raw components not collapsed, and it would auto-update your unity scene. it was a tremendous work tool that saved a tremendous amount of time. like working in mograph to get just the right animation in real time.

it's a large complaint currently in the nyc meetups, and yes we all know how to export to fbx files ;)

Hi, is there any update to this issue? I´d love to import c4d files directly and can´t understand that this bug isn´t fixed already. (using latest unity & lates C4D R18).

So, apparently they are aware of the issue and are hoping to push it in the next update.

Finger crossed
