How do I apply normal maps to objects in Unity?
I have been modeling in SketchUp 3D and have wondered what the best course of action would be when it comes to applying textures and normal maps to objects in order to create a visual effect making the flat texture look as if it is fully 3-dimensional. My friend and I are thinking about doing it all in Unity but don't exactly know the best techniques to use, nor do we know the typical scripting conventions that are used when using such techniques. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all for taking the time to help.
Don't model in Sketchup. Unless they've made some major fixes since the last time I used it, it makes messy models with holes and overlaps that won't UV map correctly.
Use Blender. It's 100% free, and if you haven't used $$anonymous$$aya or 3DS $$anonymous$$ax you won't notice how awkward its whole UI and workflow is by comparison.
