SpriteRenderer.sortingOrder - sprite underneath peaking through

These hexes have a brown 3D thickness that should be covered by the overlapping hex below (which has a higher sortingOrder). The hexes are actually aligned correctly, and the artifact disappears when the camera is closer. This problem persists in both game and editor views.

Nope. This was actually a sprite scaling problem :P.
