Unity freezing on full screen

I'm very new to unity (I don't even know if I'm asking this in the right place), and just downloaded it on my new computer. It worked fine on my old computer, but now when I open it, the application freezes if I try to set the window to full screen. This is a problem as the window extends below my taskbar, so I can't get to the bottom corner to resize the window and I can't see the messages that appear on the bottom of the window. Also, when I start up Unity the top of the window is white and partially covers some of the buttons on the editor in full screen. I attached a picture of what it looks like on startup and when I set it to full screen. Thanks in advance for any help!
