Combining multiple box colliders into one
Hi, I have a little house editor. Users will build houses out of simple cubes, each one with a box collider, something like this:
I think I could "merge" the colliders where possible (i.e. if a cube is near another one and so on...).
My question is: since box colliders are extremely simple and efficient, do you think that this optimization is really necessary or I could simply go on? Every building will be made out of up to 1000 cubes max.
Thank you.
EDIT: I forgot to say that these houses would be static.
I have similar objects in a game Im doing. Each object is comprised of 742 blocks (there are 3 objects in scene)
I haven't noticed any performance drop doing it this way. Would be nice to hear what others have to say on this as I did wonder myself.
;)
I guess it's a widespread issue these $$anonymous$$inecraft days (even though it certainly doesn't use box colliders :) ). Good news there aren't performance drop or such with 742*3 box colliders, though my idea is to populate a little town with tens of these user (or procedurally) generated buildings, I'd like to know if it's feasible before I start to develop the town editor... :)
