SendMessage cannot be called during Awake, CheckConsistency, or OnValidate

I've been looking for ways to get rid of this warning, but I have no idea how to. It seems like all the Unity Forums don't know either but I'll post a question here anyways.

I get spammed with these warnings. Here's the code that causes it, where child is a RectTransform: alt text
