Question by Tanoshimi2000 · Mar 22, 2019 at 12:15 PM · editordirectx 11

Unity doesn't show on remote desktop, teamviewer, or logmein

Symptoms: When using Unity on a computer who's screen is not on by access that computer remotely, Unity windows do not render.

Cause: Unity uses DirectX which will not render unless there's an active monitor?

Possible solutions: HDMI Terminator, have unity render without using DirectX calls.

OK, so that's it. When I'm at work I remote into my home computer to do some work on my projects (don't tell my boss). This works fine if the screen is on, but if the screen is off, I can't see anything on Unity (or 3ds Max). Research indicates it's because DirectX won't draw unless there's a screen on. I have a 4k TV connected to my video card, which I can't leave on all day, and I tried using an HDMI terminator in the onboard hdmi port, but that didn't work either.

Is it possible to set Unity Editor to run without using directdraw calls? Has anyone else found this to be a problem and found a solution?

The editor uses the same 3d engine the built game/app would. It has to render the scene view somehow.

O$$anonymous$$, but programs like 3ds max (which suffers from the same issue) renders it's menus, properties, etc., using standard windows/mac interfaces and those are visible, only their viewports are invisible, and you have the ability to set the viewports to use OpenGL ins$$anonymous$$d of DirectX.

Unity uses the ongui to make the tabs/windows ect. That's why we are able to customise it so much. Unity will also render in whatever your project settings api is set to. Try changing your project to use opengl ins$$anonymous$$d if you like.
