Question by TheEmeralDreamer · Oct 23, 2011 at 10:33 PM · terraintree-creator

My trees lie flat?

Is there a reason my trees lie flat(instead of along the Y axis) when I use mass tree placement in unity 3d?

Is your terrain correctly facing up?

Yes. everything else on the terrain is facing up. its just for some reason when i use mass tree placement... it always does that with $$anonymous$$Y trees. it works fine for unity trees. it even works fine when i use $$anonymous$$Y trees and create an instance from a prefab.

Try flipping your trees then. Also it's not a smart thing to use tree placement. You should really place trees manually, as there's much more control over them.

I can try that, but I'm not so sure it will help. Remember I just said that when i place the trees one by one (not with the terrain editor) they stand up properly. it's only when I use the terrain tools do they lay sideways (like laying on the ground).

Oh. Well if you are planning on only using the terrain trees, then make it lie sideways, otherwise don't use the terrain editor for it (recommended).

Still unable to get mine to stand upright for the terrain tree placement tool, even after rotating 90 degrees, very frustrating...

UPDATE: Fixed it, ended up copying the created object from one blender file to another, then going x -90, then applying the instances with ctr+ a, and then putting it back to 0 and saving.

there is a great addon which fix it in blender with one click. https://forum.unity.com/threads/blender-unity-rotation-fix.181870/

I have had this problem. The object needs to be rotated x90, y00, z00 and be upright in Blender. So what i do is set the cursor to 0,0,0 and set it as the pivot. Then is edit mode rotate the tree, model x-90. Then exit edit mode and rotate it x90 so it is upright and has x90 rotation. Should be upright in Unity now.

This has to do with Blender having its Y anx Z axis switched. In blender simply go into edit mode and do R X 90 and then in Object Mode R X -90.

It has to do with Unity having its Y and Z axis switched, blender uses the conventional system
