What is the best way for players to create custom maps in my game by making them in unity and exporting them to my game?
Create a map editor within unity. Use a well suited serialization format for the maps the user creates and write a saver/loader for it for the real game.
I'd avoid user defined geometry and just stick with geometry you provide for compatibility.
Program a runtime map editor that saves maps which can be loaded by your game.
is this 2D block based levels? a PC game? if so i can post a simplified code example from my last project to demonstrait @hexagonius 's answer and get you started.
