Splash dots on the ground

Hello, i want to make a simple top-view shooting game, and i want to make the enemies splash blood/paint on the ground when killed. I want to make the paint stay on the ground until the player dies. A good reference is the Blood Splash from "Super Meat Boy", but i have no clue to start.

  1. get the position of killed enemy

  2. Instantiate a prefab of blood splater particle system over there

  3. attach a self destruction script to the prefab

depends on the particle system you instantiate and how fast it gets destructed. This is the usual way of doing it.

So, its not efficient if i wanna to paint the ground in a large area, right?

that is a good idea as well if u r not concerned about the effect and is only looking in to the performance

The idea is making red squares as enemies and when they dies, they paint the ground, so the the next red squares will be harder to see. So, if i make alot of particles, in some time will be laggy, i think... Some guy suggested to use decals. but is good to use decals of squares to paint all the ground?
