IPhone/Android Development using Unity Free
Is it possible to develop (not building the deployment packages) for Mobile devices using the normal desktop version of Unity using the "Standard Assets (Mobile)" assets? I accidently referenced the various player controllers from that packages and got tons of error log spam indicating that this might not be supported.
That's ruder than someone who leaves a downvote and doesn't explain it! >:-O No, I did it because of the implications. The post says to me, "I don't care enough about user experience to develop this with love." However, it's possible that oliverw does in fact have a mobile device, and intends to build to it. If this were true, I would have just misunderstood "building the deployment packages". I took "deployment package" to mean any build, but maybe it means only the sellable product? I'll rescind the representation of my disgust until I hear otherwise.
In fact with "Deployment Packages" I meant the final build for distributiion to the app store. I wasn't aware that Unity is actually building each time you click the run button.
@Justin Warner: That's a nonsensical assumption...if I downvoted a question, I wouldn't bother answering it. I'd leave a comment about why I downvoted it, unless it's obvious (spam, etc.).

No, click on the iOS or Android platforms in the build settings and see what happens.
