Preview window for fbx

Question

I am running Unity 3D 5.3.1 on a macbook. I have exported a simple animation as an fbx file. In the Inspector, I do not get a preview of the model or animation. Why is the preview window missing from the Inspector?

In unity 2019 that "IK" button does not exist....

For unity 2019 - alt text .... I wasted 2 hours trying to find this :-(
