Script compilation time varies even for small changes on the same file
Issue
The big issue is, that sometimes it will compile using that little rotating widget in the bottom right corner of the unity editor and sometimes it will show the dialog "Hold on..." (like when first opening a project). The former is fine, since I can immediately hit CTRL + P and it will start playing once finished compiling. The latter is annoying at best, since CTRL + P won't be recognized and the whole editor ui is unresponsive. Also when first starting the unity editor it's compiling normally and fast and then after a while it just takes longer (diplaying "Hold on..." instead of the rotating widget).
Environment
This happens regardless of code editor used (VS Code or VS Community 2017) and even with small changes inside the same file. I'm on Windows 10 Build 1609 with an SSD and a Core i7 2600 with 32GB RAM.
Maybe bug in my Unity Version?
I updated the project from 2017.1.2 to 2017.4.19f1 recently and never had this problem with 2017.1.2
Edit
I tried switching back to VS 2015 Community because I had problems with debugging also. It seems that this fixed the compilation. Will post again in a week to be sure :).
Edit2
So the next day the problem reoccurred and I'm through all of the available IDEs on Windows. I guess the project is just too big and editing a file that's used on many places in the project just needs the time to compile.

Yea. I switched to Rider , it takes control of the unity compiler. When you save your script it automatically send command to unity to compile without switching back to unity.
