What exactly is the division of roles between Unity and the programming IDE (like Rider)?
I just had a (reflection-related) problem (thankfully resolved by now) that was caused by an old version of Rider. Which puzzled me because so far I've thought that ultimately the programming IDE was only a high-end text editor that provided Unity with .cs files, which Unity then, without consulting the IDE, compiles and executes. Admittedly, I never thought too much about how something like debugging fit into this picture.
But can someone illuminate me: what is really the relationship between Unity and the IDE?
